EXAMPLE STORY:
You wouldn't know it by looking at me but I have celiac disease. I was born with the disease and spent many years sick. Some of you might remember how I could not gain weight, my fevers and how food made my stomach hurt. I missed school, playdates, field trips, sports activities and birthday parties.
My parents and I visited so many doctors over 3 years until finally I got the right diagnosis. My parents helped me start and stay on a gluten-free diet and I feel so much better.
This year, I was picked to join the all start soccer team and made the honor roll in school.
Its hard though, to eat gluten-free because one tiny crumb of gluten can set a reaction in my body.
Beyond Celiac is helping. They are working with scientists and doctors to find a cure.
And I am joining that work to help find a cure. For me, for the other Young Friends I work with and for all of us who deserve a life beyond celiac.
