My daughter Ava was diagnosed with celiac disease one year ago. What is Celiac Disease? It is an autoimmune reaction to the protein in wheat,barley, and Rye-Gluten. Her body attacks itself and kills the villi in her intestine. Unable to absorb nutrients and causing serious high risk for cancer. The only way to prevent is a strict gluten free diet for life.
What is scary for Ava is that no matter how careful we are with her diet, she gets cross contaminated by even one spec left over in a pan or in the air. Also gluten is hidden in a lot of unsuspecting places. Spices, lip balm, play dough, shampoo, even in “Gluten Free” products! Her reaction is 4-5 days of bad cramping, muscle aches, diarrhea, nausea, skin bumps.
Please help fund Celiac research for Ava and many others. Researchers are trying to figure out a way to alter the body’s auto-immune reaction when gluten is introduced. What I just realized is how under funded this research is. Every dollar helps!
I have a lot of friends and if everybody donated $5-$20 ( remember the Als bucket challenge? How many of you dumped the Ice but did not go donate??) we have nothing as fun as that to promote, but hey begging works too, right?!
