Hi! I'm Jenna. I'm 19 years old. You wouldn't know it by looking at me but I have celiac disease. I was born with the disease and spent many years sick. I was diagnosed back in 2014. I was always sick, I always ran fevers, my stomach constantly hurt, I was always tired and just out of it. I missed school, cancelled plans, was always depressed and anxious.
My parents and I visited so many doctors over 3 years until finally I got the right diagnosis. My parents helped me start and stay on a gluten-free diet and I feel so much better.
This past year, I was well enough to actually get a job!
Its hard though, to eat gluten-free because one tiny crumb of gluten can set a reaction in my body.
Beyond Celiac is helping. They are working with scientists and doctors to find a cure.
And I am joining that work to help find a cure. For me, for the other Young Friends I work with and for all of us who deserve a life beyond celiac.
